Sheffield Cathedral has unveiled plans for a multi-million pound refurbishment project. It’s hoped that the scheme will make the local landmark more accessible to the public.
The £5.4 million pound makeover includes plans for a new entrance, heating system and nave floor. The Cathedral will also boast a education and learning centre that will be available to all local schools.
Funding for the Gateway Project has already been secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund and a Local Trust.
Canon of Sheffield Cathedral Simon Cowling says that ‘accessibility is everything’. At the heart of the plans is an extensive redesign of the current entrance and a new pipe organ. The Cathedral hope to have everything completed by early 2014.
