A celebration to the official opening of Manor Oaks Studios and the Future Nature Garden will be held on Friday 6 May. A full programme of activities, including studio and garden tours and exhibitions, will start from 2pm and the general public is welcome.
Located near the historical setting of Manor Lodge, the studio provides a suitable place for artists to work in crafts and applied arts. The studio also has set up a partnership with Green Estate.
The studio will also host ‘Lords, Ladies and Apron men’, an exhibition produced by Emilie Taylor, which consists of nine stoneware ceramic chargers decorated using oxide and luster. The exhibition will explore issues of masculinity in the Renaissance period and present day.
Emilie said: “Images were developed to incorporate historical symbolism alongside contemporary iconography from the men’s daily lives, including their role as part of Green Estate.
“The plates celebrate the current Renaissance or rebirth of the Manor, and recognise the role of local people in developing the site both historically and today.”
Works from various artists will also be on display and available for sale and ceramicists Penny Withers, Sarah Villeneau and Hanne Westergaard will show their garden pots in the Manor Oaks Studios courtyard.
Manor Oaks resident ceramicist Frances Priest will also be providing an update on her project to design a table setting for the Turret House banqueting room at Manor Lodge. She will assisted by ceramicists Joel Neild and Miles Gavin.
The officer for Green Estate will lead a family activity, which will teach people how to make their own Mini Beasty Box.
